Your child’s journey to allergy relief starts with a personalized and comforting experience at Next Wave Kids.
Before Testing Day
Your first visit will be an initial allergy consultation with Diana Karnilaw, our Nurse Practitioner. During this appointment, you’ll discuss:
Your child’s allergy concerns and history
Previous reactions, medications, or treatments tried
A personalized plan for skin testing day
On Testing Day
Upon arrival, you and your child will be welcomed into one of our child-friendly exam rooms—complete with toys and tools to make the experience as fun and stress-free as possible.
Review & Consent:
Diana will go over the skin testing plan again, explain what to expect (including possible side effects), and obtain your consent.
The Scratch Test:
Our friendly allergy nurse, Diane Charney, will perform the skin scratch testing. This involves placing tiny amounts of allergens on your child’s skin (forearms or back) using a gentle, quick scratching technique.
Wait & Play:
After the test, you’re free to relax for 15–30 minutes in our playroom or cozy corner with a Disney movie while we wait for results to appear.
Reviewing Results:
Diana will return to interpret the results and work with you to build a custom allergy management plan tailored to your child’s needs.
Follow-Up
You’ll return in one month to evaluate how well the plan is working and make adjustments as needed to ensure the best allergy symptom control. Once symptoms are well managed we’ll follow-up every 6 months!
Is Skin Testing Painful?
We get it—“pokes” can sound scary. But in reality, skin testing feels more like a mosquito bite than anything painful. Most of our little patients tell us it’s more itchy than painful, and we’re ready with all the kid-approved tricks to help ease that itch and keep them comfortable.
